About Lee
Lee Bonner is honored to have worked with some of the top businesses in the world, beginning with CNN, BellSouth and the General Electric Company before moving into government and policy. While at GE he began as a lead engineer designing systems to monitor power plants around the world. Lee holds two patents in the field of gas turbine and power plant remote monitoring. He moved to Nevada following the acquisition of the Bently Nevada business, becoming the executive communicator and Public Information Officer. Lee also began working in the government sector on issues like the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Over the past decade he has worked closely with many local, state and federal officials to address key policy initiatives.
In 2010 Lee was elected to the Douglas County Commission and served a four year term. After being elected to Chairman in his second year, Lee’s involvement in the National and Nevada Association of Counties led him to a presidential appointment as the Chairman of the Technology and Telecommunications Steering Committee setting public policy for counties across the country. He also served on the Rural Action Caucus, International Economic Task Force and the Telecommunications Policy Institute of the New York Law School.
Over the last decade, Lee has served on numerous boards and organizations across Northern Nevada. Some of those boards and positions are the Nevada Association of Counties, Vice President of the Western Nevada Development District, Chairman of the Regional NNDA Workforce Education Committee, Douglas County Debt Commission, Law Library, Carson Valley Visitors Authority, Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, Northern Nevada Development Authority, Vice President of the Business Council of Douglas County, Carson Valley Arts Council, and Reno Rodeo Association.
After not seeking a second term as County Commissioner, Lee accepted a position to work for the State of Nevada with the Department of Transportation. As the local government liaison he is building relationships and handling issues between local governments and the state agency.
As a graduate of University of Georgia where he was a gymnast and cheerleader, Lee is proud to be from Georgia, but he is honored to call Nevada his home. Among Lee’s passions are horseback riding, rodeo and singing and playing guitar. He has a personal goal of visiting 40 countries and is currently at 26. His son Bo still lives in Georgia along with Lee’s sisters, Ruth Tomlinson and Kim Tardy and their families.
